Peer-Mediated Instruction to Support Mathematics Achievement
Peer-mediated instruction is an approach that incorporates peer tutoring in the learning process. Peers work together, alternating in the role of tutor or coach. The tutor provides clear and explicit instruction and models, illustrates mathematical processes, and provides corrective feedback. Peer-mediated instruction can be applied to elementary, middle, and high school settings.

In this visit, Heritage Intermediate School’s leadership team will meet with their MSMI coach and researcher to develop a protocol for student data meetings. The school staff will receive training on how to use this protocol in a professional development session and through their Professional Learning Communities. The MSMI coach will also provide follow-up professional development in Generating Leveled Questions and Explicit Vocabulary Instruction.
