Selecting and Implementing Reading Interventions

Even though the expectation is that students will learn to read with understanding before advancing to the middle grades, the reality is that many students reach the middle grades and are unable to read grade level text fluently and with understanding. Research has demonstrated that struggling readers in middle school can improve their reading ability when provided supplemental reading intervention that directly addresses vocabulary, comprehension and word-reading.
